I wish to thank you for joining us for the Swiss Night dinner on Friday 27 January in Davos. It was a pleasure to have you as our guest, and we are already looking forward to seeing you in Davos next year. Below, you can find a link to the pictures from the Davos Swiss Night Dinner, where WISeKey celebrated its new status as a Global Growth Company Partner of the 2012 World Economic Forum. The dinner was hosted with our partner Hublot. https://picasaweb.google.com/116597485163685340868/WISekeyDavosSwissNight2012# WISeKey is the first start-up in Switzerland to become a World Economic Forum GCC member in such a short time; other technology companies with the distinction include Google and Facebook. WISeKey is recognized as a role model for innovative cyber-security technology and efforts to protect individuals, businesses, and governments on the Internet. The WEF ranks cyber-attacks as one of the top five risks in the world. Cyber-attacks of 2010 and 2011 focused needed attention on the lack of appropriate safety measures. WISeKey is using its new status with the WEF to inform enterprises to the ever-changing landscape of cyber-security. Each year at Davos many events are dedicated to a country: such as the Indian Night, China Night, and Japanese Night among others. WISeKey is proud to inaugurate the Davos Swiss Night as a way to promote Swiss innovation. The dinner was attended by leading Swiss entrepreneurs, visionaries, CEOs, politicians, venture capitalists, banks, and investors, all brought together to foster Swiss innovation and entrepreneurship. According to the latest Global Innovation Index, Switzerland ranks number 1 of 125 global economies—up three spots from last year’s rankings. To compare, other ranking are as follows: Sweden (2), Singapore (3), Hong Kong (4), Finland (5), Denmark (6), U.S.A (7), Canada (8), the Netherlands (9), and, the United Kingdom (10). Switzerland also rose to the top spot on the World Economic Forum’s global competitiveness report last year, noting the country’s high capacity for innovation as a strong point. During the Davos Swiss Night, participants praised Switzerland for not losing steam during the current economic recession, unlike many neighbouring countries. Switzerland’s traditional strength in innovation, patents and inventions remained very competitive and unchallenged. Occasionally, Switzerland has received criticism for what some perceive as an inability to fully exploit the commercial potential of its ideas. The argument suggests that the Swiss are not pragmatic or entrepreneurial enough to successfully sell their ideas, in contrast to peers in the United States for example. At WISeKey, we aim to end this myth, and we believe that by promoting the Company to a Global Growth Company Partner, the World Economic Forum believes that we will. More on WISeKey at Davos: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/wisekey-focus-davos-wef-names-130000514.html See you all in Davos next year. Best regards,Carlos MoreiraFounder, Chairman & CEO

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – WISeKey launches the WISeID special edition app designed for “Generation C” and coordinates its release with the participation of Carlos Moreira at the Sixth Annual Global Competitiveness Forum (GCF). Hundreds of business and political leaders, and intellectuals will converge in Riyadh from January 21-24 to take part in the GCF 2012 probing ideas around competitiveness.

Mr. Moreira, WISeKey Founder and CEO, will speak at the panel session “Generation C – Click, Connect, Communicate, Collaborate” which will discuss the future of digital connectivity and business dependence on the virtual world. Mr. Moreira will showcase WISeKey’s WISeID, which creates a unique digital ID, like a passport to be used on the Internet.

WISeID “Generation C” is designed to support the “digital natives” demographic, those who turn to the Internet instinctively and actively participate in social media where they contribute to discussions and share ideas. “Generation C” value their expanded universe, but they are also vigilant about maintaining control over their lives and their personal identifiable information (PII).

WISeID adds the fifth “C” for “Confidentiality” as the app’s data encryption helps protect its owner’s PII as they actively participate in the virtual world, on social networks, making electronic transactions and communications.

Geneva, Switzerland (ots) – WISeKey announces the appointment of Mr. Philippe Pascal to its Advisory Committee. The committee provides advice to the Company’s senior management regarding matters of strategic business development and future revenue growth.

Philippe Pascal headed LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton watches and jewelry activities since 2001 and lately served as Advisor to the Chairman Bernard Arnault. Prior to this, Mr. Pascal was president of Moët Hennessy, the wines and spirits division of LVMH. Thanks to his knowledge of the luxury sector, his discipline and creativity, Mr. Pascal contributed to the growth and enhanced identity and prestige of each brand in the division.

“Philippe Pascal joining WISeKey’s strategic advisory board will radically boost our luxury industry insight to advance our digital brand management business. WISeAuthentic® is a pioneering solution that defends against counterfeit products entering the global market. It saw an astonishingly successful deployment with several leading watch manufacturers including two LVMH brands,” said Carlos Moreira, Founder and CEO of WISeKey.

“As you develop a luxury brand, as I did for all these years, protection of that brand becomes strategically important: I have been supervising some of the world’s most prestigious luxury and consumer brands for more than 20 years, and now I have the pleasure to bring part of this experience to the WISeKey Advisory Committee,” said Mr. Pascal.

About WISeKey
WISeKey is a leading information security and identity management company, providing specialized technologies for data protection, effective identification and authentication of people or objects to ensure secured communications and transactions without compromising trust.
More information:

The Microsoft software we all depend on is useless if it doesn’t work due to hacking or other cyber threats. Almost every day in the press we learn of government computer network outages, leaked databases, private or sensitive information disclosures, compromised security systems, or other perils on the internet. The threat looms large and is growing. Last year Norton estimated the global cost due to cyber crime was US$388 billion. I suspect the cost is much higher as we don’t know what is not reported or unknown in the quiet and stealthy world of cyber theft. The cyber defensive struggle continues and we must protect ourselves, our organisations and the systems we depend on to operate lest we become the next victim.

In my judgment, Microsoft has perhaps the best understanding of this cyber threat and what to do to defend against it more than any company in the world. Its products are sold only after rigorous security evaluation and testing. It combats cyber crime working with law enforcement and government. It monitors the ebb and flow of the internet, identifying new threats and implementing counter measures. Microsoft delivers a range of high quality security products to aid the world in combating this threat. It studies the growing use of cloud computing and implements measures to make use of the cloud safe and dependable. But Microsoft does not work alone. Its partners provide reinforcement in the effort to win against the ever-changing cyber threat.

WiseKey is one such partner. Founded in 1999, the company has evolved to provide a variety of information security solutions to help stay ahead of the threat, protect data and privacy,

and provide trusted and secure access to the rich world of devices and information systems made possible by Microsoft. At its core, our encryption capabilities are as solid as a Swiss bank vault and are governed by a neutral, Swiss non-profit organisation charged with ensuring we meet the most demanding security standards in our products and solutions.

I ask customers all the time the following questions. To log onto your computer network, do you do more than enter a user ID and password? Can you send and receive encrypted messages? Do you feel there are adequate security measures in place to prevent sensitive data leaks from your organisation? Is your internet site secure? Does your organisation save money and reduce paperwork by using digital signatures or security certificates on documents to ensure they are genuine? If the answer to any of these questions is ‘no’, the solution is the combined power of the Microsoft/WiseKey partnership.

WiseKey security solutions run almost entirely on the Microsoft software product line. We help provide trusted and highly secure access to your information systems. We help protect patient and doctor privacy online. We help safeguard the evidential chain of custody for police and justice communications. We help ensure sensitive data is not leaked out of your networks. We help educational institutions save money and time in their communications with student and graduates. We help keep your identity private, while at the same time improving your secure access to government and commercial cloud services. WISeKey is the hottest Swiss digital technology company in years. Founded in Geneva in 1999, WISeKey’s first major collaboration was with international non-government organizations, the International Organization for Security in Electronic Transactions (OISTE) foundation and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The partnership yielded international standards on cyber security and electronic commerce solutions that were widely embraced by governments and leading corporations around the world.

Whereas giant digital security corporations, like Symantec and McAfee, protected your computer mainly from a constant onslaught of faraway viruses, WISeKey’s services operated on a more personal scale.

Living up to a straightforward vow WISeKey’s mission statement is a straightforward vow “to facilitate and enable the mass use of secure digital identities in everyday life”. It hasn’t always been easy, but the company lives up to it.

With a corporate culture powered by the Swiss tradition of discretion and neutrality, WISeKey gained the trust of the world’s great corporations early on. It partnered with Microsoft, Rolex, and HP. Those collaborations helped those companies become greener bureaucracies, more secure product developers and better supporters of small businesses’ clients needs for secure and efficient electronic transactions. WISeKey soon moved from being a promoter of digital certifications and secure e-transaction systems to being an implementer and service provider in this fast growing field.

They often do it in creative ways we hadn’t even imagined. I find that rewarding. It feels good to empower people to shape their own fortunes.”

Governments, both federal and municipal, regularly hired WISeKey to help increase the safety and effectiveness of their internet services. Corporations in industries as varied as retail and high-speed sailboats praised WISeKey’s customized and original digital transaction systems for helping them stay a step ahead of counterfeiters of their products and data thieves.

Furthermore, WISeKey stayed true to its public service spirit and continued to collaborate with a few non-profit organizations. At the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative, Moreira announced plans for WISeKey to create digital identity solutions for mobile phones to help the world’s immigrants, both legal and illegal. Few companies can pull off these projects, for they require that WISeKey be skilled and trusted enough to play the role of honest broker, coordinator and service provider to a country’s often competing key stakeholders: government ministers, business operators, the news media, corruption watchdog groups and, last but far from least, consumers.

“WISeKey is becoming a bit like Google,” Moreira says. “Our digital identity encryption systems are becoming platforms people and organizations customize and use to manage their lives. They often do it in creative ways we hadn’t even imagined. I find that rewarding. It feels good to empower people to shape their own fortunes.”

All in all, WISeKey kept a very busy slate. The small firm was contributing digital identity solutions to the world’s greatest challenges, from sustainable development to security in electronic transactions to immigration. In 2010, WISeKey would consider a public offering of shares in the company, so its management could invest and move quickly into mass market digital identity protection for electronic transactions. It would sell digital ID products directly to consumers.

According to Scot Wingo, chief executive of ChannelAdvisor, an eBay¬backed company that helps stores like Wal-Mart and J.C. Penney sell online, e-commerce was set to grow to 15% of overall retail in the next decade from around 7%. Since e-security concerns would grow along with e-lifestyles, WISeKey’s business would flourish. Moreira thought he had all the bases covered.

A fateful meeting for a new path

Then Moreira met Peter Liu. A mutual friend introduced them to each other in the conference centre in Dalian. Liu was chairman of the WI Harper Group, one of the world’s most successful venture capital firms. With offices in Beijing, Taipei and San Francisco, and special insights on the Chinese technology markets, WI Harper Group was big time. Founded in 1996, WI Harper’s portfolio included companies like Sirf, a San Jose, California-based provider of GPS chipsets and Shanghai-based Medical System, a clinical information system provider.

Moreira and Liu hit it off. A 15¬minute chat stretched to three hours. Shared passion for international development and smart digital business eventually led the two men to discover a new path for WISeKey’s business: job creation.

It wouldn’t be easy. The job of creating jobs anywhere in the world seemed practically impossible during the recession. This fall, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), a Paris-based think tank that does intense research on the challenges of 30 member countries (which happen to be most of the world’s most-developed countries), reported that unemployment would remain terrible in 2010. It would rise to nearly 10% by the end of 2010, from 5.6% in 2007, and above its previous post-1979 peak of 7.5% in 1993.

“WISeKey is very excited about the prospect of helping China deploy digital ID security technologies and solutions on a large scale”

The OECD report said that government spending programmes on the labour market – retraining programmes, for example – could be better focused. While programmes to put workers on reduced hours have sustained the incomes of many jobless people, coverage of such benefits is weak in some OECD countries.

Peter Liu and Carlos Moreira decided on the spot that investing their considerable resources and talents in a digital identity technology hub in China would be good business and good for a large society with a highly mobile labour force. WISeKey and WI Harper signed a letter of intent to collaborate on developing business opportunities for WISeKey in China.

The agreement is aimed at creating convergence in the electronic identity ecosystem in China by offering WISeKey’s expertise in value-added services and products to the growing user community of digital identification for electronic identity cards, electronic tokens, biometric devices, mobile operators and SIM identification. In short, they will facilitate the growing demand for digital authentication products, and the two companies will open physical centres to employ locals and distribute WISeKey’s entire suite of digital ID encryption services to telecommunications and e-commerce companies and ministries.

Needless to say, both men were excited about their epiphany. “WISeKey is very excited about the prospect of helping China deploy digital ID security technologies and solutions on a large scale,” Moreira said. “We will draw heavily on WISeKey’s experience in working with small and large businesses, consumers and regulators to help make our partnership with WI Harper a great success.”

Peter Liu, chairman of WI Harper, said WISeKey’s leadership role in the growing digital security market, knowledge of all stakeholder concerns and ability to navigate the politics of a strong but still developing economic context were the key attractions. “We are very happy to work with a New Champion of the World Economic Forum in helping their technology to be deployed in China,” Liu said. “We believe WISeKey’s experience in the area of digital security will have a significant impact in China when it is combined with the local manufacturing and electronics industry.”

Back in 1999, theWISeKey founder and chief executive officer saw that the Internet was hip. It was snappy. It was game-changing. Obviously, it was user-friendly. But there was one big downside: the Web’s security infrastructure was porous and ill-equipped for stable, secure transactions. “We knew one day this would be a real problem,” Moreira recalls. “The question was, while maintaining a cool, open infrastructure, how could we start developing reliable security solutions?”

Geneva, Switzerland-based global e-security leader WISeKey (WIS stands for World Internet Security) is dedicated to restoring the universal right to privacy and anonymity – or at the very least the right to choose when and how to entrust others with personal, identifiable information. By providing governments, businesses and individuals with state-of-the-art, military-grade specialized security and digital identification technologies, WISeKey’s ongoing mission statement is succinct: “to facilitate and enable the mass use of secure digital identities in everyday life.”

From the beginning, WISeKey engaged in early, complex and high-end applications, including working alongside the Swiss government to secure airtight political e-voting from personal computers, and partnering with Microsoft on its Citizen Service Platform, which enables local, regional and national governments to allow citizens and enterprises to identify and authenticate themselves across borders and multiple identity systems and cloud services. Then as now, WISeKey subsidiaries also solve advanced e-security issues for organizations in sectors ranging from defence and health to education and finance. And last year WISeKey made news by announcing plans to collaborate with venture capital firm WI Harper on developing business opportunities in China on behalf of telecommunications and e-commerce businesses.

Today, though, it’s not only industries and governments that need to secure data. Thanks in large part to social networking, individuals want to protect and own their private information, too. Says Moreira: “If the highway a car is travelling on is not secure, then you need to secure the car.” Which is why, over the last five years, WISeKey has also migrated “from an haute couture to a prêt-a-porter platform”, in Moreira’s words. The goal: to help users migrate from an obsolete, password-based infrastructure to a digital identity encryption-based one.

WISeID is a downloadable, theft-proof application that stores and accesses a person’s usernames, passwords, PINs, account numbers, bank and credit card details, frequent flyer programmes, rewards points, and other user credentials, creating a single, standalone digital identity. This way, every single identity and contact detail is traceable to a single person, and his or her mobile device. Lost your smartphone? You are the only one who knows your credentials. Moreover, a copy is stored on an encrypted cloud under the user’s control. With the personal data stored safely in WISeID, individuals regain the privacy they had all but forgotten was their right.

WISeKey’s continuing growth and global leadership – the company recently finalized the construction of a second high security data centre in Bilbao, Spain, in addition to the one it has already built in Geneva and the one in operation in the Swiss Alps – is due in no small part to its dynamic chief executive officer. As an early participant in the evolution of the Global Growth Company (GCC) Community, Moreira dubs WISeKey’s alliance with the GGC as one of the company’s “most relevant milestones”, one that he says has benefited the company in countless ways, not least in terms of international exposure. “As we travel around the world to regional meetings,” says Moreira, “the interaction between WISeKey and all these different sectors, from health to e-government to banking and technology, has brought our outreach to new dimensions. It’s been exciting to see the connections between WISeKey and global growth.”

Humans are so enamored with the digital revolution that it is easy to forget that one of its downsides is the erosion of anonymity. WISeKey’s industry-defining technology platforms help bring identity back to where it belongs: in the individual’s own hands.
