OISTE
's Center
of Excellence for Electronic Government
was founded in November 1998
to develop a framework
for Secure E-Government. The OISTE
Center
of Excellence for Electronic Governmenis non-partisan and does
not lobby or otherwise actively advocate or represent the
interests of governmental institutions or other groups.
OISTE positions itself as a major
player
in the determination of
international e-commerce and e-government security . Also on
the use of
certification standards, both technical and legal, applicable
to e-services in general based on Global Public Key
Infrastructures.

The government market lags its mighty commercial counterpart,
but it is only a matter of time before e-business will impact
every government agency. The push by OISTE's government
unit is part of an organization wide effort to highlight
electronic business capabilities.
The increase in the use of
government online services at the global level suggests that
the public sees the Internet as a more acceptable means of
getting involved in government activity at both the national
and local levels
OISTE has created an
e-government toolkit that includes best practices designed to
help states streamline government and improve customer
service. In its own words, countries have spent millions of
dollars automating systems and putting government online.
Every major e-gov service has a Web site and most are
conducting at least some transactions online with citizens and
business partners. However, there are important reasons for
countries to lead the transformation to a government
that is organized and managed to maximize the benefits that
technology brings. |
